Words & Worlds: Languages and Ecologies Symposium
Curated by Caroline Harris, Gareth Hughes and Nathaniel King.
Join us for this in-person symposium on the theme of Languages and Ecologies. The day will include papers, lightning talks, performances, readings, films and installations.
The Words and Worlds symposium will explore the possibilities of language as an intermediary between humans, plants, animals, and other nonhuman beings. This event responds to the themes of the Words from the Wild exhibition of visual and material ecopoetry currently on show in the Davison exhibition space. The exhibition is open 10am to 6pm, until 24 March and has been co-curated by doctoral researchers Caroline Harris, Briony Hughes and Gareth Hughes, with the Royal Holloway Culture team.
Professor Simon Morris (Leeds School of Art; Inscription Journal) is confirmed as a keynote speaker for the symposium. Papers (15 minutes), lightning talks and readings/showings of creative practice are invited on subjects including multi-sensory poetics, translation, language loss and diversity.
